While it's by no means the biggest medical issue, one of the most visible effects of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is excessive and unwanted body hair. Laser hair removal is one of the most effective ways to treat this side effect, so is at least worth considering.

Laser hair removal treatments can often be confused with other techniques such as intense pulse light (IPL). The big difference is that laser hair removal uses a specific light wave that is more efficient: compared to IPL, more of the energy goes to neutralising the base hair follicles and less winds up doing nothing useful but causing discomfort.

Patients with PCOS may find laser hair removal more flexible as well. That's because it is more suited to larger areas of skin such as backs or legs where a single IPL session would be a technical struggle (not to mention potentially painful.)

The confidence benefits from laser hair removal for women with PCOS are more of a long-term affair. It may feel like a big deal to undergo a course of laser treatment compared with methods such as waxing or shaving. However, laser hair removal's effects are far longer lasting, meaning that excess hair stops feeling like an ongoing problem.

The results can be varied, and generally women with darker hair and lighter skin will benefit more. That said, a good clinic will be happy to talk over the treatment with you and help you decide if it is worthwhile.

If you are suffering from PCOS and have facial hair (or hair in other places on the body you would like removed) please contact us for a consultation.

Laser hair removal treatment is exactly what males need as it is easy, safe, painless and permanent. It is definitely preferable to smelly depilatory creams, painful waxing, or constant shaving. If you've ever wanted to rid yourself permanently of unwanted hair, this is definitely a great way to accomplish your goal.

For most men, the areas where they want to have hair reduction are large ones, the back, chest, and the legs. With laser treatment, these large areas can be done quickly and easily. The laser hair reduction combines the precise accuracy of shaving with the long lasting qualities of electrolysis, making it much easier to keep large areas free of unwanted hair.

The laser systems work with cool lasers and lights, the procedure itself is less painful and uncomfortable and finished more quickly than with the needles used in electrolysis. This is important, since areas like the chest and back can be very sensitive. The lasers are not as invasive as needles, you are far less likely to suffer any real pain during and immediately after laser treatment. While there will be some discomfort, most reputable doctors or practitioners offer a topical pain relieving cream to be applied before the begins, providing immediate relief.

While women seem to understand that beauty comes at a price, men are, by nature, more logical and practical creatures. Laser hair reduction treatments can vary in cost, but the fact of it is that you'll be making an investment. This investment is such an important one, consider the fact that you are absolutely worth it!

Sit down and add up the costs of the alternative methods of hair removal. How many jars of depilatory cream, packages of razors or razor blades, or home waxing kits will you be purchasing over the course of your life? Not to mention the skin care creams and soothing balms you'll have to pick up to keep your skin feeling smooth after all of this abuse. we estimated the price for 35 years using the per treatment cost and figuring out how often most people would have to use each method, assuming they start about age 15 and slow down at about age 50, laser hair removal is actually one of the most inexpensive methods along with shaving. Compare the price, and you'll agree that this one time investment is well worth the price.

While conducting your search for a doctor to do your laser procedure, call the offices of those doctors you are interested in and ask if they have worked with many male patients. When you find one who has, ask if you can then make an appointment to go in and talk to him, to ask any questions you may have about the procedure. Make sure you feel comfortable with the person performing the actual laser treatment, as this will help to keep you calm before and during the procedure.

If you know any buddies or co-workers who have had laser hair reduction done, ask them about their experiences and if they would recommend their doctor. Word of mouth is the best way to find really great services and those who offer them, so take advantage of others' experiences.

Perhaps the most attractive selling point of laser hair reduction is that your skin will require very little care after the procedure is done. The area that has been treated will be slightly red and very mildly uncomfortable, much like a mild sunburn. It is recommended that you wear sunscreen on the area for at least 48 hours after the treatment. You should also avoid tanning, either outside in the sun or in a tanning salon, for a minimum of two weeks after the procedure.

There won't be any oozing or bleeding or any open sores to look after, and there is no chance of nicks or cuts like those from a razor blade. Within two weeks, you'll notice that your skin is back to normal, but even better; it will be softer and rid of the unwanted hair!

Chatting to one of my young clients today during her treatment and she told me she’s sure she’s the only young lady with hair on her tummy. I could totally empathise because I used to feel the same about my legs. Since starting in business I’ve realised just how many people have a problem with unwanted hair on some part of their body. So many of us just don’t talk about it because we’re too embaSee MoreSee Less

The beauty clinic offered free on site parking and the reception staff were welcoming in a beautiful building.
Ann is absolutely lovely, very professional & friendly and carried out a thorough assessment prior to starting any treatment. She is happy to share her experience of how she got involved with laser hair removal and is extremely knowledgeable. She puts you at ease instantly and can show you the amazing results she has using the same type of equipment. To put it bluntly..I was gobsmacked!.
I have had my legs waxed in the past, but for a few years have epilated my legs and under arms. I did think laser hair removal would be painful….my friend & her daughter have had their legs & under arms done at another beauty clinic and found it uncomfortable but successful. So I was prepared for discomfort and pain. Ann did tell me if I tolerated epilating and having my tattoos, then laser would be no worse with regards to pain. SHE WAS RIGHT! I felt no pain or discomfort at all….not a bit.
Some hairs have come away already but of course it is very early to expect full results.. Going on the results Ann has had it will be fantastic.
My next appointment is in 6 weeks as Ann advised.

LightSheer® laser hair removal treatments are not suitable for everyone and carry some risks. LightSheer® is not suitable when you have active infections or inflammations, viral/fungal/bacterial disease, active cold sores, open lacerations or abrasions in the treatment area.

Risks may include: change in skin pigmentation, changes to skin texture, or burns. Be sure to consult our FAQ section or ask us for further advice before choosing this treatment.

Watch this short video to find out more about the Lumenis Lightsheer® Technology we use.

Includes some amazing before and after images you have to see to believe.

Traditional methods for hair removal include plucking, shaving, waxing, electrolysis and chemical depilatories. Some are painful, some are messy, all of them are time consuming and costly.

LightSheer® is a permanent hair reduction solution based on clinically proven diode laser technology. LightSheer® is comfortable and effective. It features two laser hair removal technologies:

  • High-Speed Vacuum Assisted technology for large treatment areas, requiring no prep and no gel
  • ChillTip™ Sapphire integrated cooling for smaller more delicate treatment areas

Click the tabs to find out more information on the process.

  • High-Speed technology incorporates suction to elevate and stretch the skin. In doing so, the laser achieves maximum absorption into hair follicles while covering a large area, shortening treatment time and reducing the sensation of heat.
  • With High-Speed technology vacuum gently draws skin into the handpiece, stretching  it thin and pulling  the target closer to the energy source.
desire-laser-clinic-lightsheer-laser-removal

  • ChillTip™ technology uses a proprietary integrated Sapphire cooling system that momentarily numbs the skin while compressing the handpiece to the skin rotating the hair follicle for better energy absorption.
  • With ChillTip™,  the skin is cooled  before and during treatment. It is then compressed and the laser beam is directed  to the skin.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does laser hair reduction work?
The laser targets the hair follicle, cutting off the blood supply and stopping the follicle from producing a hair, while the surrounding tissue remains undamaged.
What do I need to do before having treatment?
4 – 6 weeks before treatment you will need to stop waxing or epilating. You can continue to shave and the area needs to be shaved 1-2 days before treatment. You will also need to keep the treatment area out of sun for 4 – 6 weeks and remove any tanning products prior to treatment.
Is it safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women?
Treatment is not recommended for pregnant women. There is no risk associated with breast feeding.
Are there any areas of the body which can’t be treated?
We can’t treat eyebrows due to the close proximity of the laser to the delicate eye area.
Does it hurt?
Depending on which hand piece is used, most people notice a slight warming of the area during treatment. Depending on the sensitivity of the area being treated, you may experience a sensation similar to an elastic band flicking the skin.
When will I see results?
You should see changes between 1 and 2 weeks after the first treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
We recommend a course of 6 treatments, after which you should see dramatic differences in the hair present. Due to individual hair cycles and hormonal differences results can not be guaranteed and further treatments may be required.
Is there an age restriction for treatment
For insurance purposes the minimum age is 18
Can you treat all skin types?
Our equipment is designed to treat all skin types, however we would note that the darker the skin the greater risk of burning and would highly recommend discussing with us prior to treatment.
What can I expect after treatment?
After the treatment the area may be red but this should disappear within a few hours. In rare cases the redness may last up to 24 hours. The hair will fall out over the next few weeks and regrowth may be finer, lighter or more sparse.
What is the aftercare?
After the treatment you will need to avoid hot showers and baths, swimming, sauna and physical exertion for 24 hours. You can apply soothing cream or gel and must wear a minimum SPF35 on the treated area for 2 weeks.
How long will it take for the hairs to grow back?
We recommend treatments are repeated every 4 – 6 weeks depending on the part of the body to be treated
Can you treat all hair colours?
Our equipment is designed to treat all hair colours, however results are greater on darker hair. A consultation and patch test will be carried out prior to treatment to determine suitability.

About Desire Laser Clinic

If you are thinking about Laser Hair removal, you will have your own very personal reasons for doing so.

Everyone’s story is different, but let me tell you mine. I hope it will give you an insight into why I set up this business and the technology I use.

For me, it all started in my teens. As I grew older, I became increasingly embarrassed at how hairy my legs were.

When I was about 16, I started getting waxed. After each session, I always had the same dilemma: should I shave them every few days, or let the hair grow so I could get them waxed again?

After each waxing, I would usually have smooth legs for less than a week before I could feel the stubble coming through again.

At 21, I joined the RAF. I ended up becoming even more self conscious because the way of life often meant using communal showers in the gym and sharing rooms during training or whilst attending courses.

I used to cringe at the thought of going away and generally being in close proximity to other people. I very rarely wore skirts outside of work as I was always worried in case anybody accidentally brushed against me and felt the stubble.

By the time I reached my thirties, I finally decided I had had enough. I started researching Laser Hair Removal, which wasn’t anywhere near as well known as it is now. I decided to give it a try.

I used to travel from Norwich to London every 6 weeks for treatment. I found a clinic which used a Lumenis machine and was absolutely amazed at the difference after the first treatment.

After the sixth treatment my legs were completely hair free.

I have however known other people who have tried laser hair reduction but not achieved great results. This is why it is so important to use the very best machines.

Having been so pleased with my own treatment, when I set up Desire Laser Clinic, I made a point of sourcing a Lumenis machine.

I have been delighted to find the technology has improved even further since I had my treatments. The machines are now much quicker and the process is virtually pain free.

I know from my own experience how distressing it can be to have a problem with unwanted hair in any area of the body, and how inconvenient and annoying it can be to have to keep shaving or waxing.

Now, thanks to modern technology, there is a far better way to reduce hair permanently without having to pay for continuous top-up treatments.

I can help you reduce your problem hair once and for all.

Please give me a call. I would love to be able to help.

Kind regards

Ann
